The BFR is for licensed pilots who need to fulfilll their Flight Review requirements (FAR 61.56). The FAA requires that the BFR be at least one-hour of ground and one-hour of flight. This minimum is really only applicable to the most proficient of pilots. My goal in the BFR is to simply assist you in evaluating your own flying and sharpening your skills since you last took instruction. You cannot fail a flight review; it is not a checkride. However, there are specific tasks and topics that are covered. Although everyone is different, for most Private Pilots and occasional fliers, I'd plan on 2 hours of ground and 2 hours of flight. But actual completion time may vary based on the individual. Rate is $50/hr (Ground & Flight) + Airplane Rental.
A typical BFR would include:
Ground Session 1: FAR Part 61 Review Operating Rules (FAR Pt 91), Airports/Airspace, Emergency Procedures, Aircraft Systems and Operation
Flight Session 1: Normal flight procedures, basic Private Pilot maneuvers (Stall series, steep turns, emergency procedures, normal/short/soft field landings)
Ground Session 2: Review of weather, navigation, and flight planning. Plan VFR cross-country flight, plan carried out in first part of Flight Session 2.
Flight Session 2: Navigation, fly first part of planned cross-country, diversion procedures, working with Air Traffic Control, instrument reference (IR) maneuvers.
